While my mother has always been diligent and patient about cleaning our home during her younger years, I’m the exact opposite. Unlike her, I didn’t grow up loving and relishing the moments when I have to clean our house, let alone have the diligence and patience for it. It was one of the household chores I didn’t look forward to then but that all changed when I became a mother.
The house is always a mess so I have learned to find time to make cleaning the household possible no matter how busy I can me as a working mom. So for all our mom (and dad) readers who need some help with cleaning their homes this springtime, here are some helpful tips to make your spring cleaning a breeze.
1. Create a cleaning plan.
Depending on how big your house is, create a plan for your spring cleaning project. Write down which area of the house you think needs cleaning first and which will come next. After you’ve decided on this, declutter the room first before starting the deep cleaning phase. Doing this will make it feel less overwhelming.
2. Prioritize the bathroom and kitchen.
Say the plan you created didn’t work. If that’s the case, prioritize the kitchen and the common bathroom of your house. These are the areas which your family uses. Clean the counter tops and sinks and make sure they’re gleaming with cleanliness. Organize the small items by using a basket and putting it in cupboards. You can also put some other items in drawers.
For your bathroom, deep cleaning may be needed once. After that, keeping it tidy and clean after every use is enough. It has to be a family effort to make it happen.
3. Accomplish one deep cleaning task per day.
To make it more manageable, do only one time-consuming household chore in a day. For example, you can do window cleaning for Monday, vacuuming on Tuesday, bathroom cleaning on Wednesday, laundry on Thursday, scrubbing of floors on Friday, and sorting of old toys and clothing on Friday. Plan the order of the tedious tasks you can do according to the strength and time availability you have.
4. Stock up.
After creating a plan and surveying each area of your house, hit the store to stock up on cleaning supplies. Most common items you’ll need include trash bags, cleaning agents (pick the safest options for your family), and organizing tools. Be sure to buy everything you need for your spring cleaning project so that you don’t have to go to and fro the store.
5. Use baskets.
If you don’t have baskets at home, be sure to pick them up while shopping for supplies. They can be useful for last-minute clean-ups when you’re expecting guests at your home but you don’t have much time to clean and keep things organized. You can just throw different items in the basket and tuck it temporarily under the table or inside big drawers and closets.
6. Have fun while cleaning.
Who said you can’t enjoy while doing household chores? Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a chore. You can have fun, too by playing some music, singing, and dancing around as you scrub, sweep, wash, and organize things. Create your own cleaning playlist using music that motivates you and keep you jazzed up as you tackle the chores. It will make time fly fast you’ll hardly notice that you’re done already.
7. Get help from your family members.
Enlist the help of your children and your husband. Assign age-appropriate duties to your kids. Doing this together will help them gain a sense of responsibility and teach them how to be disciplined inside their own home. Just make sure first that the area you’re cleaning is free from hazardous items. You can then assign the tougher tasks to your husband. This way, you were able to do the household chores faster and bonded with family at the same time.
We should keep our house clean and tidy throughout all the seasons. However, if you didn’t have that much time before, spring is the perfect season to remove the clutter and start cleaning. Remember, a clean house can mean a clear your mind. So start your spring cleaning project and use it to create happy memories with your husband and kids now!Every Saturday I get a major itch to Spring Clean and it never happens.
