When you’re a part of an influencer network, you are competing with hundreds if not thousands of other bloggers for the same campaign. When the competition is fierce you have to display your work and show how well your blog is doing in a way that will make your blog stand out from the other blogs in your niche.
Usually you will find an ‘advertising’ page or ‘work with me page’ on a blog and it will list examples of sponsored posts, brands they’ve worked, blog stats and social media stats. And there’s nothing wrong with that – shewt, I have an advertising page here myself. But if you really want to showcase your blog and stand out from other bloggers, you need a media kit.
A media kit is a one page document that features the best of the best of your blog. It includes a mini bio about you, a description about your blog, what brands you’ve worked with, blog and social media stats, demographics, your advertising policy and contact information.
If you’re wondering if you really need a media kit – the answer is simple. If you want to monetize your blog with sponsored content, you’ll need one for sure. Not every influencer or brand will ask for one but there are some who do so it’s best to have it on hand or posted on your blog so you don’t miss out on paid sponsored content.
In a previous post, I showed you the best way to get noticed by influencer networks if you want to monetize your blog writing sponsored posts. Well now I’m going to show you how to put that on a media kit to really step up your A-game.Show off your #blog with a hip #mediakit and get noticed by brands and influencer networks.Click To Tweet
What to Include In a Media Kit
When you put a media kit together you not only want it to bring out your stats and other pertinent informatoin but you want it to bring out your blogging style and show off what makes you, you.
Here’s an explanation of how to set up your media kit and what to include in it. These are only suggestions, you can format it anyway you wish but the first two sections should be about you and your blog.
Start off with a mini bio about yourself. This is your chance to really make an impression so personalize it. Talk about where you’re from, your family, what your hobbies are, and why you started blogging. And include a picture of yourself.
The next section should be your blog description. Talk about your niche and what kind of topics you write about along with examples of your popular posts and who you’re writing for.
Insert your blog stats such as page views, unique visitors and total visits, social media followers, number of blog subscribers, email subscribers, RSS subscribers and demographics. I like to display mine in the center of the page with a nice background color to make it pop.
List the brands you have previously worked with by inserting their logos. For example, the image below features the logos at the bottom of the document. I’ll tell you more about that image in moment.
Insert your sponsorship policy. Describe your rates, the kind of promotional advertising you accept such as banner ad placement, contextual links, sponsored post, product reviews and/or giveaways. Outline what type of payments you accept and any other disclosures you feel is important influencers and sponsors should be aware of.
Include a call to action to close up your document. You can say something like “I would love to promote your brand. Contact me at (enter your email address) to begin a partnership.”
Keep your brand in mind when designing your media kit. Use the same logo and colors scheme as you do for your blog and social media. You want brands and influencers to recognize your blog instantly.
It’s best to pull all the information you’re going to use before you start editing your media kit. This will help you save time. Here’s a little checklist to make sure you get everything you need:
- Blog (from Google Analytics) and social media statistics
- Total visitors
- Unique visitors
- Social media reach (total number of followers on all your social media profiles)
- Subscriber list (if it applies)
- Your demographics
- A list of brands (and their logos) you’ve previously worked with
- A list of your popular posts based on the niche you described in your blog description. Make sure you include an eye-catching image.
- Your image for your bio
- A copy of your advertising policy
How To Create A Media Kit
You can create a media kit on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher or you can search on Creative Market and find one like this one here. But remember, presentation is everything so before you invest in a template, make sure it’s the right style and layout.
When I was searching for a template for my media kit, I decided to go with Hip Media Kits. They have five templates to choose from. Each template has a clean, professional look, meaning it’s not too cluttered so it easy to read. You can check out all their templates here. I like the Turner Media Kit template. Here’s what it looks like:
Now I know you’re probably asking yourself how much a media kit is going to set you back. Trust me, I can’t afford to shell out big bucks for one either. My expense budget is this little.
Anyway, I was expecting to see a high-end price but I was surprised that their media kits start at $28.99. And for those of you who have more than one blog, they’re currently offering bulk orders at a special discounted rate.
Over To You
You know how the saying goes, “you have to spend money to make money.” While that’s true, we can find ways to save money. I think Hip Media Kits is a great price to invest in our blog, especially for those of us who has a small budget or just starting out.

But I did apply for their affiliate program because I love promoting products I believe will bring value to our business that is blogging. Update 11/16/15: Yay! I was accepted into their affiliate program. I’ve updated the links with my referral link so if you decide to order from Hip Media Kit, I will receive a small commission. If you do, thank you for your support!
