This is a follow-up post about eCommerce businesses. Last week I shared the three-step process to launching your own eCommerce business. The reason why it’s a popular choice among entrepreneurs because it’s relatively easy to launch and due to the small start-up cost that’s involved.
But once you have it up and running you have to continue to work at it to make it a success. Here are the six key ingredients in order to have a successful eCommerce business.
The Key Ingredients
No matter how great your products are or how competitive your prices are, your customer service is what customer’s will focus on most. Responding to customer issues and resolving them as quickly as possible will earn you repeat business. Implementing something like a follow-up email to see how they’re enjoying their purchase will send a positive message, especially if you include a coupon for a discount on a next purchase!
It’s important to check links and even do a “dummy” order to make sure the order and checkout process runs smoothly. A customer who has trouble placing an order will likely forget about it, resulting in a lost sale and repeat customer.
Great Products and Keep Em’ Available
It’s important to have great products and if you know it’s a hot commodity, have plenty on hand to fulfill your orders and ready to ship out to your customers!
With Great Products, There Are Great Prices
See what the competition is pricing and go from there. You can either match or beat it but never start on the high end. Establish your website as “the” site to go to for great products and great prices.
Have A User-Friendly Shopping Cart
I’ve been guilty of this; if I can’t use a gift card or pay with a certain card, I’m canceling my order. Be sure your shopping cart has multiple payment options for your customer.
Build A Business Relationship With A Reputable Wholesale Company
Research the company you choose to do business with. Start with the Better Business Bureau to check for any complaints about how they conduct business. Also, find out how long have they been in business. Do they carry sturdy, reliable products? I would recommend making a checklist of information you want to find out about a wholesale company to ensure you’ve covered all bases.
I hope these tips help you keep your eCommerce business running like a well-oiled machine.
