I used to blog about homeschooling, one of my passions. But then I cancelled it, deleted it, and got rid of all my social media links to it.
Several reasons really. One was family issues. Normal things that happen as kids get older, but it all piled up and I was not dealing well. I had one child move home, and then he and two of my other kids moved out within a week of each other. It was all for good reasons (job and college), but that’s a lot of change and in the months leading up to it I just felt drained, anxious, blue.
When I finally went to the doctor, I found out that not only was I going through “the change,” but my thyroid was basically burnt out. Hypothyroidism= low energy, weight gain, and low desire to do anything. I told my husband that I had zero interest in life, and I meant that literally. I’ve always been a get-up-and-go person, and this hit me like a ton of bricks.
Thank goodness, the right tests were done and medication has made a world of difference. After walking around like Pooh-bear with the little black rain cloud over his head, I am seeing sunshine and feeling joy in life again. It’s amazing what a little sleep and synced up hormones can do.
Also during this time, I was let go from my part-time job as a marketing assistant. I worked very part-time, but it was from home via email, and frankly, I enjoyed that bit of extra income. There aren’t many jobs where you can be in your PJs, drink coffee, and have your kitty snuggled up next to you while you work.
Oh wait, there is blogging….
So, I started a new blog. I enjoy writing, and I love to help people. After reading Cori’s post on Social Media Management I thought, “I can do that!” I read her article, plus a ton of others on blogging, social media, ways to promote your blog, ways to increase traffic, etc.
I met with my first “client” yesterday. Honestly, I was scared to death before the meeting, and I almost cancelled. But because she’s my first customer I was doing what Cori had recommended and trading services with her in order to get a testimonial/referral. Which meant I got a free facial. How could I turn that down?!
My mind started going as soon as the facial began. My body was relaxing, my face felt terrific, but my brain was churning out ideas right and left. It was so good; I knew I could help this woman get her new business going through social media! I’ve already emailed her ideas, and we’re meeting up next week to start implementing them.
I’m a big Maya Angelou fan, and this quote sums up where I am now:
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
So, here’s my question for you! What’s your mission, your passion? What’s holding you back? If there’s something you love, take it from me – blog about it!
