Last month I shared some important things to do for an effective job search. So, in my best Dr. Phil voice, how’s that job search workin’ for ya? Have you been searching for some time now and not getting any good leads?
Have you wondered what could be going on? Maybe you’re not getting job alerts as often as you’d like to. Or perhaps you’re getting offers for positions that don’t interest you or that’s in your skill set.
I remember how hard it was looking for a job and how frustrating it was reading job alert emails that had nothing to do with my skills or what I was looking for. If this has been the case for you lately then I’ve got something that can help freshen up your job search.
Let’s talk about four things you can do to keep your job search fresh. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, just a touch-up to your existing documents and profiles will do. For example, you can…
Update Your Profile At Job Search Sites
When was the last time you updated your profile at job search sites like Jobs 2 Career? If you aren’t getting any interesting leads take a look at your profile and see if it could use some updating. See if they might have updated their categories and skill list to make sure you
Update Your Resume
Make sure you update your resume with any new certifications, a new skill, a completed project or even edit your objective if there’s a career change. Common practice suggests we update our resumes once every six months.
Revamp Your Cover Letter
Take a look at your cover letter and see if you can change it up. Taking a second look might help discover another way to explain a skill or maybe help you remember to add something that wasn’t included in the first draft.
Check Your Social Media Profiles
I know this doesn’t have anything to do with keeping your job search fresh but it’s so important that it bears repeating. Remember, most recruiters or hiring managers will have already checked out a candidates profile before an interview so it’s important to exercise your discretion when posting pictures of you at a party.
