Mom life and blog life. They both take a lot out of you and by the time you hit the pillow you’re tired, tired, tired.
I remember like it was yesterday. I had two kids in middle school and two kids in high school.
I’d wake up at five in the morning to send the hubs off to work, get the kids up, fight with them to speed it up so they can eat breakfast before we head out.
I’d come home clean up the mess they left then start my work day. Then stop at 2pm to pick up the kids and leave one for after school practice. I’d come home and blog for another hour. Then I’d go back to school to pick up the kid at practice, come home and start dinner.
After the mom shift it was back to the blog until about ten or eleven o’clock and repeat the next day. And this is the short version!
Regardless if you’re a mom to humans or with four paws and a wagging tail, we – women are pulled in all directions. I’m not saying dads don’t deserve a shout out – they work hard and support the fam. But moms are the ones on the front line.
You fam needs you and so does your community. So when you take time out to pamper yourself on purpose, it’s not being selfish, it’s healthy.
There are some ways you can be a healthy mom blogger. Just take a look at these five easy tips you can add to your day.
You have to make time for breaks. And I’m not talking about taking a break from blogging to do laundry or taking a break from the mom shift to do some blogging.
A break time is your time to decompress before moving on to the next task on your to-do list. When you do this, you’re freeing your mind from what you were working on to prepare for your next assignment.
Use Ergonomically Correct Equipment
Blogging for hours at a time can really do a number of your hands, neck and back. If you’re sitting in front of the computer for most of the day, you should consider using ergonomically correct equipment.
I’m using a wireless keyboard by Logitech. The K350 model has a wave design with a curve layout to correctly position your hands.
I got mine at Best Buy but you can find it on Amazon.
I paired this keyboard with Logitech’s M510 wireless mouse. It’s got a contoured shape and soft rubber grips on the side where your thumb can rest easy. I got mine in black but I’m loving this red one!
Now this one is on my list to buy. This balance ball chair helps build a healthier back, aligns your spine and relieves pain. And, isn’t this a great price for a balance chair?
Ugh – the ‘e’ word. I’m not a fan of exercise but I know it’s an important part of healthy living.
I see moms posting pics of their workouts in the wee early hours on Instagram and I tell yah, those are serious goals. But let me be real here – working out at 5 in the morning ain’t gonna happen – not for this mama at least. Hehe.
And by the time I’m done with the evening mom shift of cooking dinner, cleaning the kitchen and straightening out anything else that needs cleaning and getting my task list ready for the next day…it’s almost midnight. And I’m not about to work out at midnight.
But I did find a way to do some simple toning exercises while I’m in work mode.
For the arms I grab my 5 lb. dumbbells and do 25 reps of shoulder presses, triceps extensions and in & out curls to work the biceps.
I do standing work outs for the thighs and booty using my chair for support. I do 25 reps of leg lift extensions and pulse, squats and leg lifts to target the inner and outer thigh.
My goal is to do these four times a day. By the time the day is over I would have gotten a nice workout in between the madness of mom life and blog life.

The one downside of working from home is having access to the kitchen at any time.
I know how hard it is to grab a healthy snack when there is a bag of chips or cookies at your reach.
If this is the case for you, make sure the fridge and pantry is stocked with healthy choices like popcorn, fruits, veggies, nuts and water.
Do I ever grab a Dr. Pepper or Hot Fries? Uh yeah – but I limit myself and yes, it’s hard to resist a cold DP that’s calling your name!
But since you – mom is in charge of buying groceries, the way to keep junk food out of the house is to not buy it in the first place.
I had that big duh moment myself. I used to think ‘how am I going to lose weight eating junk food?’ And then one day I was like ‘duh Cori – don’t buy the stuff,’ so I don’t.
By that I mean instead of buying a 12 pack can of DPs I buy one can DP the day I want to drink one. Because if there’s a 12 pack in the fridge you best believe I’ll have more than one!
This is different from taking a break. Practicing meditation or daily prayer requires silence and unplugging from the world for just a few minutes. Just you, your thoughts, and your daily intentions.
There’s a great article on WebMD about how meditation heals the body and mind. You should give it a read when you have a chance.
So grab your cup of coffee, sit outside and just take in all the quiet before the crazy begins!
Here’s to your health mamas!
