Online surveys have been around for a long time now. And it was one of the side hustle gigs I did to make extra money. But to tell you the truth, I was kinda hesitant about them at first.
I mean, getting paid just to give your opinion. That in and of itself sounded like a work-from-home scam, right?
The more I searched the more survey sites I found. Some paid cash and others paid via reward points you can redeem for cash and other prizes.
Since I needed to make money quick so I went after the survey sites that paid money.
The first survey site I signed up to was Inbox Dollars*. I still had my reservations about online surveys because I wasn’t sure if this was legit or not. But after I received my first payout I realized it was the real deal. And I went on to sign up with a few more sites to increase my earning potential.
From that point on, online surveys had become one of the ways I made money from home until I found something more permanent.
When I mention online surveys to people who are looking for a side hustle gig, I get the pause and the look that says “are you serious with this?”
And I don’t blame them. Like I said, I had my own reservations about them too.
The thing is, companies pay big bucks to know what the public thinks about their product. They want to know where they need to improve to stay ahead of their competition. So our opinions are truly valuable to them.
My Experience With Online Surveys
Online surveys have a bad rep – and that’s because of those fly-by-night sites that don’t pay crap much less payout.
But all sites aren’t like that. In fact, you can make a decent amount of money doing them. I’m not talking thousands a month but it’s enough to help pay the bills.
Let me tell you about my experience with online surveys.
When I logged in to a survey site, there was a list of surveys I qualified for.
At first, I was invited to surveys that paid 25 to 50 cents per survey. I was giving my opinion on products like appliances, gaming systems, and other household items we use.
After a couple months, I started to get invites to surveys that paid 50 cents to a dollar. I’d give my opinion on things like the kind of books I read, what TV shows I watched, and where I shopped.
Then it really started to get fun!
The next thing I know, I was invited to surveys that paid anywhere from one dollar to $25 for surveys! I was reviewing commercials and giving my opinion on them. Remember those car commercials that run during the holidays? Like the Mercedes commericals? Yep, the very ones!
Can you imagine how cool it was to review a commerical and then see it run during their holiday promo?
I was also reviewing movie trailers, soap operas, household goods like toilet paper and I was making decent money. My income from surveys alone was $200 a month. I know that doesn’t sound like much but adding what to the other projects I was doing to make money it boosted my bottom line.

The Different Ways Online Surveys Pay
Not all online surveys pay the same. You can be paid by check or direct deposit. Through your Paypal account or you can earn points to redeem for gift cards and other prizes later.
Things to Remember
Here are a some things to remember to make the most out of doing online surveys.
#1 Avoid signing up to survey sites that ask for a membership fee. Chances are those sites are not legit.
#2 If you’re going to be doing online surveys, it’s a good idea to keep track of the surveys you take and when you’re paid for them. Create a template to keep track of the surveys you complete, when you completed them, how much you earned and when you get paid.
#3 Last but not least, fill out the profile on each site to be matched up for the right surveys. They’ll ask basic questions like the number of people in your household, income, your kid’s age, where you shop and what kind of products you use.
Some are kinda long but it’s worth taking the time to fill out. The more info they have on you, the more surveys you’ll get invited to.
