I’ve lost count of the number of days I’ve been in lockdown mode. I’m an introvert at heart so staying home and working from home is my thing. But every now and then I like to make an escape from the house to get a breather.
When my kids were little, ‘me time’ moments were far and few in between. Solo trips to the grocery store was exciting!
I’m an almost-empty-nester, you would think with grown kids there would be time for me. Not! My days are still packed with “where is this”, “can you call here”, “did you remember to…” Mom life is forever!
With no sign of the coronavirus slowing down, it’s kind of scary to even step foot into a spa or beauty salon. It feels like there’s no escaping the chaos of home.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t practice self-care. You just have to get creative. Just like the mom in the Pepperidge Farm Milano commercial. She locked herself in the bathroom with her cookies and pretended to be dad when the kids were looking for her. Clever!
At-Home Self-Care Ideas
Now I’m craving some Milanos!
Anyway…since spa days and going to the gym is put on hold, here are some ways to practice self-care at home when you want to make a quick getaway from work, the kids and the spouse!
- Take a long, hot bubble bath.
- Get lost in a good book.
- Practice meditation.
- Do yoga.
- Take a nap in the afternoon.
- Do your hair and make-up.
- Watch a movie.
- Put your headphones on listen to your favorite tunes.
- Go for a walk.
- Grab a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise.
- Write in a journal.
- Practice Qigong. Live Science wrote an article about Qigong.
- Give yourself a mani/pedi.
- Have a spa day at home – give yourself a facial.
Remember, it’s okay to be selfish to take care of you! Here’s to your wellbeing.
