Starting a business is a big step. That’s why you should take a moment to do an exercise to help you decide on a home-based business before you invest time and money. To be 100% certain it’s the right type of business.
But when it comes to finding the perfect home-based business for women there are additional requirements to look for. Such as, that it won’t interfere with their family life or keep them tied to the computer or phone for hours at a time. That it’s an easy set-up that won’t take too much time for the on-the-go mom.
When you think about it there all kinds of businesses for moms but one type of business moms are really successful in is selling products. Moms are running a thriving direct sales business or selling home-made crafts. Some women sell products on Amazon through their Fulfillment by Amazon program and are really successful at it. I personally liked the idea when I was considering a home-based business. What stopped me was I couldn’t find the time to shop for products to start my inventory in between family time and time dedicated to managing this blog.
That got me wondering about other busy moms who want to run a business selling products but do not have much time to shop for inventory. Some might say, well, if she doesn’t have the time, that’s it. Just hang it up. But I say no way. Where there is a will there is a way.
Ladies if you’re dream of running a business selling products is this close but you don’t have time to buy inventory consider a dropship business as an alternative.
What is a Dropship Business and Why is it Perfect for Moms?
A dropship business follows a fulfillment model. Something like Amazon’s program but not quite. Unlike Fulfillment by Amazon, you don’t have to worry about inventory. Instead, you sign up with a dropship supplier for merchandise and to set up your ecommerce website. When you receive an order, you forward the order details to the supplier. The supplier will process the order and ship the product to your customer.
It’s that easy and there are more benefits to running one. For instance:
- There is little investment involved.
- You don’t need ecommerce experience.
- There is no inventory to worry about because the supplier handles the inventory.
- You don’t need to pay for office space because you can run the business from home and products are stored at the supplier’s warehouse.
- You don’t need web design experience because most suppliers will set up an ecommerce website for you.
One of the biggest struggles a seller has is finding a genuine supplier with quality products.
When you search online for dropship suppliers you get a whole list of them and then you have to research them individually to find out if they’re the real deal or not. You can’t skip this part of the business set-up process. Well you can but you risk going into business with a fly-by-night supplier with poor products costing you more money than you intended to invest in. You know you have to do the research but who has that kind of time? You want to work smarter not harder, right?
Well, while I was searching for dropship suppliers to put a list together for you, I came across the Worldwide Brands website. They are the official directory of certified wholesale suppliers. No more homework researching hundreds of dropship suppliers!
As a member, you get access to their certified dropship supplier and bulk supplier lists. The same ones eBay, Amazon and other online store owners use to get their wholesale products so you know you’re getting quality products for your customers.

I know it’s a pretty pricey investment, however; the membership can be deducted as a business expense as part of your start-up costs. Therefore, if you do become a member of Worldwide Brands, make sure to keep a copy of your paid invoices to use as supporting documents when preparing your self-employment taxes.
The Next Steps
First of all, set up your membership profile. The next step is to pick a dropship supplier. Go through their library and pick three to five (or more if you’d like) dropship suppliers. Read each one to compare their price plans, what each plan features, and if they have the ability to support your needs as your business grows.
Now you’ve got to make a plan for your drop ship business. A business plan will help you stay focused on your goals and keep you on track with your action plan.
In your plan, include your revenue goals. You can break it down by month, by week or by day. You can set a number of sales you want to make and other important data you want to track.
Determine things like what products you are going to sell. Calculate the prices of your products to ensure there is a profit at the end of each month. Write out an action plan to promote your business. Where will you advertise and how often will you promote your products? You can even plan out promotions for seasons or holidays.
Now this part is very important. When your plan is ready keep it in a place where it’s visible so you can refer to it when you need to. If you file it away, you’ll forget about your goals and action plan.
