Okay ladies, I’m about to become your virtual BFF. Do you want to know why? Because, I am going to share my secret to authentic flavors in five minutes!
I know you know how it feels to be tired as you-know-what and cooking a home-cooked meal sometimes is the last thing on your mind – but you don’t want to serve up fast food for the fam or anything else unhealthy.
When I was growing up my mom would make have a home cooked meal for us on the table every night. It was almost always traditional Mexican recipes – and in every dish there were beans – for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Back then she’d make beans the old fashioned way. She’d start by spreading the dry beans on the table and remove little pebbles or bad beans and dump the clean ones in a pot. I can’t remember how long it would take – it felt like forever to me – but it was probably about 15 to 30 minutes for the whole process, then she’d wash them and cook them for about four hours.
Who has that kind of time nowadays right? If I’m going to serve beans, I want easy refried beans!
Authentic Flavors in Five Minutes
What’s better than easy cooking with homemade taste? Cooking it in five minutes! I like to keep things simple when it comes to dinner. Like this taco bar we set up. We had taco shells, tostada shells, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and HERDEZ® Instant Refried Beans in traditional flavor.
Here comes the part where I become your virtual BFF…it only takes five minutes to get the authentic flavors of refried beans! All you do is boil 1 ½ cups of water, pour the beans and let boil for five minutes. I also added couple pinches of garlic powder and salt to taste and viola – you have it – frijolitos like my mom and grandmother used to make!
I did the traditional taste test, too. I spread some HERDEZ® Instant Refried Beans on a flour tortilla….oh yeah – it was good!
The real test was serving it to the family. They love traditional refried beans so I wasn’t sure how they would receive the refried beans but they actually liked it.
Ladies, you have to try HERDEZ® Instant Refried Beans. And they come in different flavors, too, like Chorizo, Jalapeno and Queso. You’ll find them at your local grocery store.
